I speculated that the woman only had girls when there were no boys. She came to me in a skirt that showed her legs... and gave me an indication that she expected me to be of some assistance.

February 27, 2007: The South African Youth Liberating Organisation (SAYLO), which focuses on youth education in the Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) province, was launched this month.

Forming part of the Joint Working Group (JWG), SAYLO’s founder and Director, Sabelo Zondo said the organisation focuses on Sexual Reproduction Education, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) issues, the South African History, Computer Skills and Children’s programmes.

The SAYLO launch was well-attended, and that included officials from the KZN Midlands Mayoral office, Official from Social Welfare and Health departments as well as representatives from different LGBTI organisations.

Speaking at the launch Zondo pointed out the role in which Behind The Mask (BTM) assisted SAYLO with resources to be where it is today. “SAYLO is Behind the Mask’s baby”, he boasted.

He explained reasons to start educating youth about LGBTI issues. “There is a high rate of suicide among gay youngsters. These issues need to be talked about because gay people exist even though the community pretend otherwise”, he explained.

Nunu Sigasa of the National Association of People Living With HIV/Aids (NAPWA), who attended the event dispelled the myth that HIV/AIDS is a gay disease. She said that it is important for youth to be informed about sexual orientation and tolerance.

SAYLO can be contacted on 036 352 1320 or emailed at saylo@telkomsa.net
