MAURITIUS - May 3, 2007: The Sexual Offences Bill recently tabled at the Mauritian Parliament brought much heated debate from both sides of the house, as well as protests from religious leaders and professionals. The bill could also decriminalise consensual anal sex. Amid the outcry, the speaker has tasked a Select Committee to look into the bill in detail.

ALL AFRICA - January 25, 2007: The LGBTI activists presented a workshop on Sexuality and Social Justice which included Fikile Vilakazi is the director of the Coalition of Africa Lesbians (CAL), Wendy Landau of Behind the Mask, Bridge from the UK and Manohar from Sangama in Bangalore in India. The focus of the workshop was sexual rights and social justice.

January 25, 2007: Midival Punditz played out the WSF – everyone cheered and the MC announced that four women would be presenting the resolutions from the WSF. Kasha, an LGBTI activist from Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), went up to the stage and asked to make a statement. She was asked for a copy of what she would be speaking about and gave them her piece.

HUMAN RIGHTS - October 11, 2006: In a groundbreaking legal opinion, a UN agency today declared that the detention of 11 men in Cameroon on the basis of their presumed sexual orientation constitutes an arbitrary deprivation of liberty contrary to their human rights. The UN further called on the Yaoundé government to adopt necessary measures to remedy the situation, including the possible repeal of the offending law.
