Museeuw

The Museeuw MF1 and MF3 Carbon/Flax frames are the result of extensive research and development by Museeuw and his associates, IPA Composites in Belgium and Billato in Italy.

(Click for larger image) choice of collaborators was an obvious one. IPA are the Carbon tube manufacturer to Italy’s most esteemed bike brand and Billato is the unsung frame builder to the Pro’s with a 53 year history and over fi fteen years experience of constructing Carbon frames using their Carbon Wrapping System to produce strong, light, responsive frames.

Why flax? Well high quality fl ax fi bre is a fl exible, extremely strong, very lightweight natural fi bre which has been used for reinforcing composites as far back as the 1940’s (an early example being when defence aircraft designers used it in an experimental Spitfi re fuselage) right up to modern day applications by the likes of BMW, Audi and Daimler-Benz.

By using a high quality Flax Fibre/Carbon Fibre Twill composite hybrid sandwich, Museeuw and his partners have been able to produce a lightweight (Click for larger image) Carbon frame which has excellent vibration absorbing properties, whilst retaining the responsiveness associated with a Carbon frame. To quote roadcyclinguk.com’s Richard Hallet: -‘The ride is, quite simply, incredible, especially over rough, broken tarmac. The frame’s stiffness was also impressive. Any expectations of a soft, spongy ride were immediately dispelled. The difference was marked, the ride sensation sublime. ‘

Eurosport’s David Harmon had this to say: -‘This is, without question, the most comfortable frame I’ve ever ridden.’ Read more
