The
Projects:
An Overview
Vebjørn Sand creates truly public art.
Sand's three major public installations - The Norwegian Leonardo
Project, The Kepler (Peace) Star and Troll Castle - draw their
power from the great philosophical traditions of Western Art. Sand
believes the participants - from government officials to landscape
architects to electrical fitters - who bring his public projects
to life, are also a critical part of their success.
LEONARDO BRIDGE PROJECT
- Vebjørn Sand saw a tiny drawing of a beautiful bridge made
by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502 at a Stockholm exhibition in 1996.
Vebjørn Sand's concept of the beautiful bridge was constructed
in Oslo in the autumn of 2001. Sand's vision is to build the bridge
on every continent.
THE KEPLER STAR - Vebjørn
Sand created a great star based on the forms of platonic symmetry
elucidated by the German astronomer, Johannes Kepler. It was also
known as the Norwegian Peace Star, part of the 1999 Nobel Peace
Prize ceremonies. It soars 135 feet into the sky over the forests
bordering the Oslo Airport.
TROLL CASTLE - As
Expedition Painter taking on the challenge of Antarctica, Sand has
painted in the most extreme conditions on the planet. On his return
to Oslo, he conceived a project to build a one-time winter installation
to exhibit his Antarctic paintings in an environment where viewers
could feel the power and beauty of the sub-continent.
