Phase 1 was completed on October 12, 2004 at a cost of $5.5 million. Phase 2 was let on November 24, 2004 and is currently under construction. Phase 3 is currently scheduled to be let in November of 2006.

Construction Contract Phase 1

The contracting firm of KETCO, Inc. of Glenmont, New York completed construction work on the first contract. This phase included the construction of new exit and entrance ramps between I-84 Eastbound and Route 300; a new traffic signal on Route 300; and extending and widening the northbound Thruway exit ramp. The work was completed at a cost of $5.5 million.

Construction Contract Phase 2

Phase 2 of the I-84/87 Interchange Reconstruction Project is underway. Sitework and utility work has begun throughout much of the project area and foundations for the Cold Storage Building and Salt Shed Buildings are progressing as well.

This contract phase will also provide for relocation and construction of support facilities within the interchange. Projected Activities for the immediate future include: Construction of a Detention Pond near I-84, Installation of Sanitary Sewer and Storm Piping at the new maintenance buildings, and Installation of Tank Vaults at the Cold Storage Building. Environmentally friendly "green" technology has also been incorporated into the design of the buildings to enhance energy efficiency.

The contract was let on November 24, 2004. Construction work commenced in March 2006 by The Pike Company, from Rochester, New York. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by Spring 2009.

Construction Contract Phase 3

Phase 3 of the I-84/87 Interchange Reconstruction Project is also underway.

The third phase of construction will provide for the construction of all remaining roadways, ramps, and bridges in the interchange, directly connecting I-84 to I-87. The contract also provides for the installation of two traffic signals on Route 300 and construction of a new, larger tandem lot. This phase of the project is expected to be completed, with the new direct connection between I-84 and I-87 in service by the Fall of 2009.

The $66.6 million contract for Phase 3 was awarded to A Servidone, Inc./B. Anthony Construction Corporation, (Joint Venture) from Castleton, New York. Construction work commenced in March 2007. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by Spring 2009.

There is still a lot of work to be done and the Thruway Authority and Department of Transportation appreciate your patience and understanding while this essential project is underway.
