2008 – Country singer-songwriter Paul Davis dies of a heart attack at a hospital in Meridian, Miss., at the age of 60.

2003 – Songwriter Felice Bryant dies in Gatlinburg, Tenn., at the age of 77.

1998 – It is announced that Faith No More is breaking up.

1989 – No. 1 Billboard Album: “Like a Prayer,” Madonna.

1983 – Pianist Earl “Fatha” Hines dies of a heart attack in Oakland, Calif. He is 79.

1979 – Daniel Johns of Silverchair is born in Newcastle, Australia.

1978 – Bob Marley & the Wailers headline the “One Love Peace Concert” in Jamaica. Marley unites Prime Minister Michael Manley and opponent Edward Seaga on stage.

1978 – The Blues Brothers make their first appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”

1974 – Tina Turner starts filming in the role of the Acid Queen in the Who’s film “Tommy.”

1974 – The Who begins filming “Tommy.” The task of producing the complex soundtrack drives Pete Townshend to another nervous breakdown.

1969 – John Lennon and Paul McCartney record “The Ballad of John and Yoko.”

1969 – The Who performs the complete rock opera “Tommy” for the first time – in Dolton, England.

1969 – John Lennon officially changes his name from John Winston Lennon to John Ono Lennon.

1951 – Keyboardist Paul Carrack of Ace, Squeeze and Mike & the Mechanics is born in Sheffield, England.

1950 – Peter Frampton is born in Beckenham, England.

1936 – Country singer Glen Campbell is born in Delight, Ark.

1927 – Ska singer Laurel Aitken is born in Cuba.
