Created by and for survivors, LSN empowers individuals and communities affected by landmines to recover from trauma and reclaim their lives. The Director of Research & Evaluation will head LSNs trauma research and program evaluation activities, providing strategic leadership in the development of LSNs evaluation methodologies and future research activities. As a member of LSNs Executive Management Team, this position works in close coordination with the Executive Director and in consultation with colleagues from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. Requirements Masters degree (doctoral degree preferred) in public health or related field with 10+ years of experience in program evaluation and research, and an established publication record. LSN seeks an Micro-Enterprise/Economic Development Specialist to play a major role in creating and implementing its new economic integration strategy, encouraging economic viability for landmine survivors and other disabled persons, by allowing individuals to regain their dignity and sense of self-worth through employment. The goal is to employ over 1,000 people within 3 years. You will develop short and long term objectives, build a department and a team of ME/ED Specialists in each country office. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned business person with experience in the developing world, who possesses the utmost creativity, motivation and leadership. Requirements Graduate degree in business, economics, international affairs or related field preferred, with 7-10 years experience required. Must have hands-on experience with business start-up, micro-enterprise/lending in the developing world context. Provide recommendations to LSN DC on how to improve programmatic activities to better assist survivors, especially those critically in need, including but not limited to accessing mobility devices, link/referrals, peer support, social groups, and Direct Assistance. Assist the Social Worker and team to devise and implement programmatic practices and activities that improve the efficiency and/or effectiveness of LSNs services to survivors. Assist the team to enhance and build external relations by identifying potential institutional support and institutional strengthening opportunities. Assist the team to improve their ability to identify and work in collaboration with government and non-governmental organizations to expand LSNs services and support for survivors. Assess and give recommendations to the team and LSN DC about how to improve economic integration opportunities for survivors. Advise LSN DC staff and the team of any actual or anticipated problems or difficulties perceived within the Networks programmatic activities and approach. Assist LSN DC to define, plan and implement a strategy for program expansion in Mozambique including assessing expansion to another province. Participate at the Core Staff weekly and monthly meetings in order to discuss issues about the team's work and advise and assist them as needed Technical Capacity Building Assist LSN DC and the Network team to assess staffs needs for training, equipment and materials, or other ways of support to better improve programmatic areas According to the outcomes of the assessment, assist the team and DC in setting and prioritizing objectives with a timeframe for the team. Assist the team to improve its ability to monitor and evaluate its work. Assist the LSN Director on techniques to help strengthen his ability to represent LSN at a national level with host government international community and national partners. LSN DC Liaison Submit a weekly written report (reviewed verbally with the Mozambique team) to LSN DC that provides recommendations and outlines impressions, observations, and assessment of the Networks progress in improving programmatic activities. Submit a quarterly written overview assessment of the Networks progress to LSN DC. Communicate by telephone, email or fax with LSN DC as necessary. Ken is an assistant professor of Political Science at Southwest Missouri State University. Through his courses, which include American Citizenship and Democracy, International Relations, and International Law and Organization, the Landmine Studies Program, which he coordinates, and the World Affairs Council, which he advises, Dr. Rutherford interacts with scores of intelligent and internationally minded students eager to get more involved in the landmine issue. Several of Ken's students have participated in humanitarian demining field trips to the US Army Base at Fort Leonard Wood, where they receive hands-on training in demining techniques. Ken believes the in-class study and practical training his students receive at SMSU and LSN give each student a well-rounded perspective, contributing to their future professional and personal success.
