Hon. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu MP, Asante Akim North
Minister for Finance & Economic Planning

Honourable Baah-Wiredu attended Kumasi High School from 1967 to 1972, where he obtained the GCE Ordinary Level Certificate. He did his sixth form course at Prempeh College from 1972 to 1974.

The Minister gained admission to the University of Ghana in 1974, where he obtained a degree in B.Se. administration (accounting option).

In pursuit for further education, he enrolled as a student of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1981. After a four-year course, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985. Since then he has been a member of the Institute.

For his working life, Hon. Baah-Wiredu has worked with a number of organisations, including Ghana Airways Corporation and the Volta River Authority.

He is a Senior Consultant on computer-systems and Finance Manager of Ananse Systems. He is also a partner of an accounting firm called Asante Wiredu and Associates.

The 49-year old chartered accountant started politics as far back as 1978 when he campaigned against the infamous UNIGOV concept of the erstwhile Supreme Military Council.

In 1992, he stood on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but his hopes of being in the first legislative assembly was dashed by the boycott of the election, by a number of parties, then in the opposition.

However, since 1996, he has represented his constituents in Parliament having won the 1996, 2000 and 2004 parliamentary elections in Asante Akyem North.
