Abemama

Abemama, located 25 km northeast from Aranuka and 43 km northeast from Kuria, is a small atoll of the North Gilbert Islands. The atoll consists of a deep central lagoon surrounded by islands and islets on the northern and eastern sides. Two major passages — the Western and Southern passages — connect the lagoon with the open sea. The islets of Abemama have a combined area of around 28 km².
