Yimenosaurus Bai in Bai, Yang & Wang 1990 "Yimen lizard"

yee-MUHN-o-SAWR-us (Chin. Yimen + Gr. sauros "lizard") (m) named to indicate a medium-sized prosauropod found in Yimen County, Yuxi Prefecture, Yunnan Province, southern China (Early Jurassic, Fengjiahe Formation, Yimen Basin). Known from two partial skeletons (YXV8701, YXV8702), including parts of a skull and lower jaw. The skull is unusually deep and short, similar to that of primitive sauropods in outline, with spoon-shaped teeth. Three sacral vertebrae; humerus 3/5 length of femur, tibia 2/3 length of femur. Estimated total length about 9 m. (30 ft.). The authors classify Yimenosaurus in the family Plateosauridae, but the limb proportions and unusual skull suggest more study is needed. (Ref.: Bai, Yang & Wang, 1990. A new genus of prosauropod from Yimen, (Yuxi region) Yunnan Province. Yuxi Cultural Organization [Yuxi Wen Tuan] 1: 14-23.)
