A Comprehensive Arts program will:

- develop the skills of creative problem solving, artistic perception and   
  expression.
- develop a unique medium of personal expression and communication.
-
contribute significantly to the quality of life.
- allow children to become aware of themselves and their feelings.

(This comes from the Illinois State Board of Art Education. The Ohio Curriculum meets these goals, also)

National Standards have been established for arts education in Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. National Visual Arts Standards are as follows.
  1. Understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes
  2. Using knowledge of structures and functions
  3. Choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas
  4. Understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures
  5. Reflecting upon and assessing the characteristics and merits of their [a student's own] work and the work of others
  6. Making connections between visual arts and other disciplines

Art Songs by Robbie Quinn - Recorded collection of songs for art teachers to use with their students -- ranging in content from color theory to the elements of art -- composed in a variety of musical styles to appeal to younger children while still enjoyable for adults. Listen to some of the selections on line. CD is great bargain!

I Hear America Singing Interactive Timeline connects American concert song to art and literature.

Musictheory.net - by Ricci Addams. A real find for any music student (and for those who would just like to learn a bit about music), Musictheory.net contains over 30 interactive lessons on such topics as the triad inversion, major scales, key changes, and diatonic seventh chords.

Teoria - Music Theory Web site by José Rodríguez Alvira. Take online tutorials, complete exercises, and read articles about music.

Play Music Fun - Interactive site for kids. Listen to the sounds of the orchestra - write your own music - more!

OddMusic.com - site for anyone interested in unique, unusual, ethnic, or experimental music and instruments - showcasing the sounds, music, and instruments of artists and artisans from around the globe.

Young Composers Kids send musical compositions to this site and can listen to the compositions. Selections of famous composers available, too.

Classical Music Net   Composers Data Base  Masters This index lists those composers for which there is a dedicated page at this site that may include a biography, recommended works, recommended recordings, and other related reviews and articles.

Performance Art- "Benjamin Franklin Middle School Performance Art Team created five colored sculptures that are worn in interactive performances.
