Warwick Wolves

The Warwick Wolves were founded in 1988, and the following year they joined BCAFL.

With the help of head coach Graham Huber and several experienced players, the team went 7-0-1 and earned a position in the playoffs. Warwick’s form had been so good throughout the season, that they quickly became favourites to win Championships.

For five seasons following the 1990/1 season, a lack of consistent offense plagued the team and prevented it from being a winner. Through much of that period, however, the Wolves featured two of the best players in the League.

2006-2007 saw the greatest opportunity for the Wolves to make the playoffs since the semi final defeat in 2003-2004. With the coaching of the local team the Coventry Jets many freshers experienced hard hitting training that would help them in the season. However due to poor performances on the field in vital games the Wolves failed to make the playoffs in a final game decider.

With a experienced Offensive and Defensive line all graduating the 2007-2008 season would be a rebuilding year. The 2007-2008 season saw the first half dedicated to helping the rookies gain vital on-field experience for the 3 years of playing that lies ahead for them. Losses occurred and the rookie O and D line stepped up their game in the second half the season and turned it into a winning 2008. It is hoped that this foundation will see the Wolves competing for the playoff berths in the 2008/09 season.

The University of Warwick is regarded as one of the country’s leading universities.

It was established in 1965 as part of a government initiative to expand access to higher education, and in 2000 Warwick Medical School was opened as part of an initiative to train more doctors in Britain.

In the last Research Assessment Exercise the University was the 5th highest-ranked research institution in the UK. In the 1960s and 1970s, Warwick had a reputation as a politically radical institution.

Warwick was one of the first UK universities to develop close links with the business community, and has been successful in the commercialisation of research. This commercial approach has resulted in it being nicknamed ‘Warwick University Limited’(or, more recently, ‘Warwick University PLC’).

Warwick is a member of both the Russell Group and the 1994 Group. The University’s coat of arms includes atoms of two isotopes of lithium, a DNA helix to represent science and also the Bear and Ragged Staff of Warwickshire and the Elephant and Castle of Coventry. The bear is not chained in the current depiction of the University’s coat of arms, although it was in earlier versions and in the letters patent issued by the College of Arms.
