Vidmaster Weekend Recon Challenge

Posted by urk at 5/16/2009 10:41 AM PDT

On your marks.  Get set...

...wait.

This weekend's Recon challenge doesn't start until tomorrow.  Hopefully, you've already begun assembling your team of four.  Why, you ask?

Since you're going to need the Vidmaster Challenge achievement 'Annual' on your Road to Recon anyway, we figured we'd give you a little nudge along in case you haven't picked it up quite yet.  And if you already have, well, you can still get a shot at an early set of Recon armor.  Here's how to enter:

* Fire up Halo 3's Campaign any time tomorrow, Sunday, May 17th, on Legendary difficulty 4-player Co-op with the Iron Skull enabled, and load up the final level in the game, Halo.

* Play through with your foursome, locate and enter the four Ghosts together, and complete the level.

* Take some screenshots of something awesome along the way, upload your best screenshot (singular) to your File Share, and tag it: "Vidmaster Annual." (No, you don't need to include the quotations, the period, or the capital letters.)

* Keep your fingers crossed.

Each player in your party can upload one screenshot into their File Share.  If one player wins, the entire foursome gets awarded Recon.  Make sure that nobody on your squad has ever received a matchmaking ban for cheating or boosting, as it will disqualify everyone from the competition.

If you have any questions, want to talk about this contest, find players to form a group of four, or want to share the screenshots you take, please do so in the discussion thread attached to this news post.

Who had the best time?  Find out inside.

X-Play's resident gaming pro Mr Sark brought the pain two weeks ago when he announced Sarkathlon 3. Halo 3 players were invited to try their hand at his custom designed obstacle course and submit their best times. Honor and glory weren't the only rewards on the table: the winner of Sarkathlon 3 would take home an Xbox 360 Game of the Year bundle.

Today was the day of reckoning as Adam Sessler and Mr Sark revealed the winners and talked about different types of strategies on X-Play.

Here's the video and spoiler alert, both 1st player winner Tylyr1 and runner-up DJMaluu had sick runs. Check it out:

I like pie 727 took a collection of community clips from Halo 3 and cut them all together to form, you guessed it, Voltron!  No wait, that's not right, he made a community montage.  If you're interested, it runs just over seven minutes and contains all kinds of clips.

Mandlbaum in: 'Tears of a Robot'

He's back to save the world!

Mandlebaum is back.  Robohounds have been released.  Read the description and check out this 80's inspired Halo 3 machinima trailer below.  Full release coming Summer 1983!

"Hey! Well, Mandlbaum is back baby! Due to the (unexpected) success of the original Mandlbaum movie (White Bomb), I decided to bring back the character for another go-round, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint.

I figured that I would try parodying old action movie trailers, with all their snappy one-liners and gratuitous action sequences. I also wanted to show off one of Mandlbaum's other villains (as, just like Bond, he has many). Being a trailer it has a much faster pace that the previous video (after all, trailers show all the best parts anyway) and definitely shows just how much of a bad-ass Mandlbaum can really be.

Overall, I think this should please fans of the original (by staying very true to the character and style) and also be very enjoyable to those who thought the pace of the original was too slow. So sit back in your chair and prepare to be blown away once again by the man himself - Mandlbaum!"

"Our Youth Pastor could beat your Youth Pastor."

Clocking in at just north of nine minutes, "Inertia" is a montage featuring some pretty sweet plays.  It also comes with a challenge full of caveats.  Check it out.

"Halo 3 In The Work PLace takes pride in the fact that our members come from many different walks of life and parts of the world.  H3ITWP is proud to present "Inertia," our fellow Workplacer Rhymetactics' 4th montage.

Just a little backstory...

Rhyme is a Youth Pastor who plays Halo.  Through his conduct on forums and in-game you'll always get an honest answer or a hard fought game.  He lives out his real life convictions in-game as you will never hear him drop an F-bomb even during a laggy game against boosters.  He's not the most 1337 player out there and would never claim to be.  He's just a guy who loves to play Halo.

So yeah, back to that initial challenge.  He's a Youth Pastor IRL and a H3ITWP member online.  We think he can beat your Youth Pastor at Halo.

DISCLAIMER: Any challenge extended as a part of this news story is heretofore and subsequently determined null and void if any of the following conditions are met:

1. Your Youth Pastor is a General
2. Your Youth Pastor is Pro
3. Your Youth Pastor is better than Rhyme
4. Your Youth Pastor doesn't have his own montage

If the above conditions are not met then the challenging Youth Pastor will be responsible for:

1. Providing 1st Class Airfare to their home
2. Providing an Xbox 360 Carrying Case for Rhyme's trip
3. Providing a 2nd TV (because we all know split screen is not fair)
4. Providing a comfortable bed for 1 nights lodging

These pre-requisites will be provided for Rhymetactics to participate in your Youth Pastor challenging him.  Let the challenge begin!!!
