Searching For Files
In order to download files you must first search for them. You do this in the tab pictured below. When you search you are searching the eDonkey network for files that other users are sharing.

The Search Tab

1. The Search Box: This is where you enter what you are looking for. Press enter or click on the submit button to send your search to the network. eDonkey will create a new tab titled the same as your search terms in the search window to place the search results in. It may take a while (30 seconds) for search results to start returning. As the results come in, a running total will be displayed beside the search terms on the tab title.

2. Format Box: This is the type of content you are searching for. Use this to narrow your search to more specific things. For instance if you only want mp3s you can change this to Audio. Advanced topic: Configuring the Format box

3. Submit Button: This submits the search you have typed into the search box.

4. Download Button: Once you have search results back, highlight the files you are interested in and click this button to download them. The files will now show up in the transfer tab. You can also start the download by double clicking a result or highlighting results and right clicking then selecting "Download".

5. Result Tabs: These are the results of the various searches you have sent to the network. You can have multiple tabs. In the example there are 50 results found for a search for "transmissionfilms" and 52 results found for a search for "bishop allen". You can click the tabs to change which set of results are displayed in the results list.

6. Results List: This is a list of results that you have gotten for a search. Each is a file that is being shared by at least one other person on the network. You can sort the results by clicking on the column header you are interested in. For example to sort by file size click the "size" column header. Click on the files you are interested in to highlight them for download.

7. Availability: This column displays a rough idea of how available a particular file is. The higher this number the more people on the network that have the file and thus the faster you should be able to download the file.

8. Close result tab button: This closes the currently shown list of results.
