Please follow the following steps to allow
eDonkey to fully function while running behind the ZoneAlarm
firewall. Follow the first set of instructions if eDonkey
has not yet been run while ZoneAlarm is running. Follow
the second set if eDonkey has been run while ZoneAlarm was
running, and you are receiving blocked status.
1. First run of
eDonkey behind the ZoneAlarm Firewall
- Ensure that the ZoneAlarm firewall is running.
- Run eDonkey.
- ZoneAlarm will prompt two dialogue boxes shortly after
eDonkey starts (shown below). Select Yes for both prompts,
if you wish ZoneAlarm to remember these preferences
check the check box in both dialogues before clicking
yes. These prompts will tell ZoneAlarm to allow eDonkey
to contact the internet, and to allow it to function
as a server. (why is it a
'server')
- At this point, eDonkey will attempt to contact the
internet, and ZoneAlarm will allow it to function fully.
It is possible that the delay caused while ZoneAlarm
waited for your response has caused eDonkey to believe
it is still blocked by a firewall (eDonkey will say
'Firewalled' in the status bar). If this is the case
simply type 'retest' in the message window of eDonkey
and it will check its state again
2. eDonkey has been
run with ZoneAlarm before, and eDonkey is returning that
it is 'Firewalled'
- Open ZoneAlarm by double clicking on the icon in the
system tray.
- Select Program Control on the left side.
At this point ZoneAlarm will display a list of all programs
it has recognized that access the internet.
- Locate eDonkey (either on.exe or overnet.exe) on this
list. Ensure that it has a check mark under both Access
and Server in the Internet Zone (why
is it a server)
- Locate Generic Host Process for Win32 Services on
this list. Ensure that it has a check mark under both
Access and Server in the Internet Zone (why
is it a server)
- Run eDonkey. It should connect normally. If eDonkey
was already running simply type 'retest' inside eDonkey
in the Message window
