  Unreachable - Hardware Router

Routers, while very useful to share connections amongst several computers do require some additional configuration to allow eDonkey to get 'Reachable' status.

  1. Make note of the TCP and UDP ports eDonkey is using, these are listed in Options -> Network
  2. Make note of the IP address your computer is on (what is my IP)
  3. Use your routers configuration system (often a website) to set up 'Port Forwarding'.
    • Some manufacturers may refer to Port Forwarding as 'Port Redirect' or setting up a 'Virtual Server'
    • You will probably need to configure two separate rules, one for the UDP port, and another for the TCP port.
    • Depending on the model you have you may be required to enter both an External Port and an Internal Port, enter the same value for both fields, either the TCP port, or your UDP port.
    • Some routers have a special 'Save' or 'Apply' button that must be selected from the main menu before your changes will take effect. This is separate from the 'Save' or 'Apply' button shown in a specific configuration screen.
    • You may need to restart your router for the new configuration to take effect, consult the documentation for the router, or visit the manufacturers website.

Once the Port Redirection is set up you will either need to restart eDonkey, or enter the 'retest' command in the console for the program to check to see if it is 'Reachable' again. If you are still 'Unreachable' ensure that you have entered the ports, and your IP address correctly, and have selected the correct Protocol for both rules, also, something else such as a Software Firewall may still need to be configured.

Multiple Computers
If you are running eDonkey on multiple computers, set each computer to use a unique set of ports. Then forward each set of ports to the correct computer.
