Kuop is a low-lying satellite atoll formation of the Chuuk island-barrier reef complex, situated less than 3 km south from the outer barrier reefs of southern Chuuk.
The atoll is rectangular in shape, measuring 21.5 km in length (orientated northwest to southeast) with a maximum width of 8 km at the southeastern end. The rim of the atoll contains four small islets with a combined land area of 0.5 km² — the largest located at the northeast corner, the second largest at the southwest corner and the two smallest islets at the southeast corner.
