Pakin

Pakin

Pakin is a small atoll formation of Pohnpei State; together with the atoll of Ahnd, 24 km to the southeast, it forms part of the Senyavin Islands group. The atoll lies 29 km northwest from the outer barrier reefs that surround the large island of Pohnpei.

The 10 km by 3 km atoll contains five main islets with a combined area of 1.1 km² — all are located on the eastern rim or at the northwestern and southeastern extremities of the atoll, leaving the western rim devoid of any permanent land. The rim tightly elcoses a relatively deep lagoon with a single narrow boat passage on the southwest.

Pakin's main islets include Nikalap on the northwest (the largest islet), Mant on the southeast, and Pielepwil and Uyetik on the eastern side. The northwestern rim is characterised by drying reef patches that are separated by numerous spillways.
