Turtle Islands

Turtle Islands

The Turtle Islands (at left in the above false-colour image) are located within Yap State 7 km southeast from Falalop, the easternmost island of Ulithi atoll, and 4 km west from the small islets that are located upon the northwestern rim of the Zohhoiiyoru Bank (at top, left of image centre).

The three islands of Yeew, Bul'bul' and L'oosiyep that comprise the group are located upon a steeply-rising, elongate ridge of around 6 km in length and 1.4 km in width. Semi-protected by fringing reefs the interior contains a shallow lagoon in which the three small, vegetated islands are located. Geologically the Turtle Islands are emergent features located upon an eastward trending spur of the same large seamount that gives rise to both Ulithi atoll and the Zohhoiiyoru Bank.
