Akiaki

Akiaki, Tuamotu Archipelago

Akiaki (shown here in false colour, with vegetation in red) is a small, low-lying coral island located towards the southeastern end of the central regions of the Tuamotu Archipelago. The island lies 150 km eastwards from the southern tip of the large Hao atoll and 43 km northwest from Vahitahi.

Akiaki comprises a solitary island that is surrounded by a enclosing fringing reef; the entire formation measures 2.5 km from east to west and a little over 1 km from north to south; it has a surface area of 1.3 km². The island shares many similar characteristics with two of the other low coral islands of the archipelago, namely Tepoto Nord and Tikei.
