Tatakoto

Tatakoto, Tuamotu Archipelago

Located in the distant Centre East Group, Tatakoto is one of the more isolated atolls of the Tuamotu Archipelago, lying around 180 km northeast from Vahitahi. Measuring 14 km in length and 3.5 km in width Tatakoto covers an area of 7.3 km². Its largest motu runs along the north, east and west sides of the lagoon for 15 km and is up to 400 m across. On the windward side (south) of the atoll the island breaks up in to around 50-60 smaller motu separated by numerous hoa.
