An atoll of the Îles de Duc de Gloucester group (Hereheretue, Anuanuraro, Anuanurunga, and Nukutipipi), Hereheretue is the most northwesterly of the group. The atoll lies 265 km southeast from Anaa and around 150 km northeast form it nearest neighbour of Anuanuraro. Nukutipipi — at the extreme southeast of the Îles de Duc de Gloucester — lies over 200 km to the southeast. Its triangular-shaped lagoon of Hereheretue covers an area of just under 29 km².
