Hiti is a small egg-shaped atoll of the Centre West Group. The atoll consists of an outer reef that completely encloses its interior 15 km² lagoon — there is no reef crossing passage connecting the lagoon with the open ocean. On the northern side of the atoll the reef is narrow and is topped by a series of vegetated motu with a combined land area of around 3 km². As the reef curves around to the south it gradually fans out to form a broad reef flat that is partially submerged.
Hiti, together with the atolls of Tepoto Sud and Tuanake, form a tight grouping of three small atolls that are occasionally referred to as the Raevski Atolls.
