Rekareka

A small atoll of the Centre East Group, Rekareka is located 83 km southeast from Raroia. The atoll comprises one main island that wraps almost entirely around the tiny central lagoon and two smaller islets that lie within the single drying passage on the southern side. The larger of the smaller islets divides the lagoon's only outlet into two passes. Fringing reefs surround the entire formation. They lie close offshore on the eastern and northern sides, broadening on the south to create a shallow outer lagoon. The interior lagoon is also extensively shallow, with tidal flats on the east and north.
