Anuanuraro

Anuanuraro, Tuamotu Archipelago

The small diamond-shaped atoll of Anuanuraro is a member of the Îles de Duc de Gloucester group — a linear grouping of small atolls located to the south of, and running parallel to, the main atoll chains of the archipelago (250 km to the northeast).

Anuanuraro is located at the northwestern end of a trio of small atolls (Anuanuraro, Nukutipipi, and Anuanurunga) that form a short, 60 km long, group of atolls at the southeastern end of the Îles de Duc de Gloucester group. The central atoll of the three, Anuanurunga, lies 30 km to the southeast. Also a member of the Îles de Duc de Gloucester group is the more isolated atoll of Hereheretue, located 150 km northwest from Anuanuraro.

The atoll consists of a relatively broad outer reef crest of 15.6 km in circumference that encloses a small lagoon of 7.4 km² in area. Reefs on the eastern side are well colonised by motu; the western side is comprised largely from emergent reefs and a single large islet.
