Ilak

Ilak, Aleutian Islands

Ilak is one of the smallest members of the Delarof Islands group; it is also the most isolated and westernmost island of the group. The island is located at the southern end of the Tanaga Pass, 23 km southwest from Tanaga (in the Andreanof Islands) and 22 km southeast from Skagul (in the Delarof Islands).

Ilak is around 1.5 km in length with steep cliffs on all sides that drop sharply from a flat interior plateau to a low coastal belt. The highest point on the island reaches 56 m above sea level.

Ilak is the largest of a group of small islets and emergent rocks that are collectively known as the Ilak Islands. The minor islands of the group form a short chain extending westwards from Ilak — the largest of these is the Gramp Rock (at left edge of the above image.
