Crown Island

Crown Island, Papua New Guinea

An island of the southwestern Bismarck Sea, Crown Island is located 13 km off kiau Point, the northernmost point of Long Island. Suri Point, on the New Guinea mainland, lies 75 km to the southwest.

At 14 km² in area Crown Island is circular in shape with a diameter of 4.5 km. The island is the highly eroded remnant of an extinct volcano, reaching an elevation of 570 m above sea level. The interior is radially dissected in to a series of valleys and ridges that descend to the low-lying coastal regions where fringing reefs are found.
